It’s Not Just a Point of View

with Shannon Donnelly

Shannon DonnellyAbout the Class:

Third person, first person, multiple viewpoints, single – all of it can be confusing.  What works?  When do you shift viewpoint, how and, more importantly, why?  And, how do you take POV so deep that a reader feels everything a character feels?
This workshop will cover some basic elements of POV control.  In particular, we'll look at how control over viewpoint can increase the emotion for the reader.  Exercises will be used to sharpen POV control, which is one of the most fundamental and strongest techniques in any writer's tool box.
This workshop covers:

  • Types of POV - advantages & disadvantages to each
  • Which character's eyes to use
  • How to know when POV is slipping
  • POV and tense (past vs. present vs. future
  • Changing POV smoothly & effectively
  • Deepening the POV - getting inside your characters
