2011 CONTEST FOR PUBLISHED AUTHORS

This award presented by the Orange County Chapter/Romance Writers of America will showcase the shining excellence of published authors in novel-length romantic fiction.
 “Top Pick” winner chosen by an Industry Book Buyer.

Categories for the contest are:

Category Romance
(Example: Harlequin romances, Silhouette Special Edition, or Superromance)

Category Spicy
(Example: Blaze, Desire)

Category Suspense
(Example: Harlequin Intrigue, Silhouette Romantic Suspense, or Nocturne)

Single Title Romance (Over 70,000 Words)

Mainstream with Romantic Elements         

Historical & Regency (Both Series and Single Title)

Romantic Suspense & Mystery with romantic elements (Over 70,000 Words)

Paranormal/Time Travel/Fantasy (Both Series and Single Title)

Young Adult

Inspirational

In the case of an overlap of category, selection of category is at the author’s digression.  Series or category books may be entered in any of the above.

Preliminary round will be judged by Booksellers, Librarians and Romance Readers.  Highest score in each category will advance to the final round judged by Sue Grimshaw, romance book buyer for Borders Group, Inc.

1. Entry forms (one per entry), fees and books must be received by January 8, 2011.  Entry fees are non-refundable. Entries, fees and books received after contest is officially closed will be returned.
   

2. The contest shall be open to all RWA members who are in good standing with RWA National. An author may enter as many books as he/she likes, but each book can only be entered in one category.
   
3. An author may enter electronic books provided they are presented in print book format, complete with copyright page produced by the published, with perfect or case binding and print on both sides of the page.  No ARC or galley forms accepted.
   

1. The Contest Committee reserves the right to add, drop, or combine categories, dependent upon the number of entries received. Finalists will be the top three entries in each category.  The highest score in each category will advance to the final round judged by book buyer.
2. The Contest Committee will disqualify any entry that does not fully meet with all the rules. The OCC Board of Directors will resolve any disputes which may arise, and their decision will be final.
   
3. Books must have a 2010 copyright date, first printing date, and/or first North American release date.
   
4. Entry Fee is $30.00 per entry for OCC/RWA members; $40.00 for other RWA members. The fees are non‑refundable. Each additional entry must include a separate entry form. Entry fees may be paid by PayPal through the chapter website www.occrwa.org or a check or money order, made payable to OCC/RWA.
   
5. Entry fee/s or copy of PayPal receipt/s, official entry form/s and five (5) autographed copies of the entered title/s and a self-addressed stamped postcard must be sent to BOOK BUYERS BEST CONTEST, c/o Laura Drake, Contest Coordinator, P.O. Box 306 Tustin, CA 92781. No books shall be returned.
   
6. Finalists will be announced at the April 9, 2011 OCC/RWA general meeting.  Winners will be announced and awards presented at the June 11, 2011 general meeting.  Sue Grimshaw, romance book buyer for Borders Group, Inc. will present the “Top Pick.”

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND SIGN:

1. Entry in the Book Buyers Best Contest for Published Authors constitutes agreement by the author/entrant to conform to all contest rules, and abide by the decision of the judges. Entry in the Contest also constitutes an agreement by the author and/or the entrant to hereby release and discharge OCC/RWA, its board, its members, and its judges, and their heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns from any and all rights, claims and actions which the entrant now has or may hereafter have against OCC/RWA, its board, its members, and its judges in regard to or arising from the said contest, including the submitted book and covenants not to sue on any said rights, claims and actions.
2. I(we) warrant and represent to OCC/RWA that I(we) am(are) sole owner(s) of, and have the exclusive right to the published novel submitted hereunder and the copyright free and clear of any liens, encumbrances, licenses, or claims of whatsoever nature; and
3. I(we) am(are) desirous of entering the Book Buyers Best Contest for Published Authors and thereby receiving valuable judging and services provided there under of my(our) published novel; and
4. In consideration for said judging services, the undersigned agrees to pay forthwith a non‑refundable entrance fee of $30.00 for OCC/RWA members or $40.00 for Other RWA members, per entry.  Check made payable to OCC/RWA, or online (www.occrwa.org) via PayPal.
5. OCC/RWA reserves the right to add, drop, or combine categories, dependant upon the number of books received. The Contest committee will disqualify any entry that does not meet with all the rules.
6. This release is fully and voluntarily executed by the undersigned. The undersigned has read this Release and the official rules of the contest and agrees to be bound thereby.
